The Hunua pacific coastline (our version of “PCH”) as seen on a previous sign, is one of the most stunning drives on a nice day. During the summer months its a beautiful swimming location with many small bays perfect for snorkeling or kayaking.
One of the most well known spots is the Kaiaua “fish n chip” shop. Sample the kiwi fast food favorite if your heading out of Auckland to the Coromandel.
The area is home to bird sanctuaries and also a thermal hot pools and camp ground while many motor homes are seen parking in designated areas along on the coast line just soaking up the views, perhaps some keen bird watchers as well.
We even saw a traditional Maori Waka going for a paddle. The water was clear & warm for Austin to have a little play in and I wish I had brought a towel for a swim as it was a very hot day but managed to find a picnic under the Pohutakawa trees to enjoy our hot fish n chips.
A little holiday surf post is up next, thanks for reading!
