Nizfest 2011

10 11 2011

Nizfest 2011 was held at Hampton Downs Motorsports facility last weekend playing host to all show, drift, track and gymkhana nissans from your Primera’s to your R35 GTRs.

Highlight for me was the 2012 R35 GTR lapping at serious pace most the day and the wide variety and high standard of cars.

Was most impressed with the quality on display and could have crawled over the amazing cars for hours

Here is a quick look at what was on display:

Spring Blast

30 08 2011

Spring is almost here, and the mint weather finally made for a wicked day for some riders at Hampton Downs in the weekend (28.8.11). After just fitting a new set of Dunlop’s to the GSXR i was not going to make this one financially, but im getting prepared as the weather becomes more predictable!

The new Kawasaki ZX10r was out in full force counting at least 2-3 of them! they look the business and seem to go as well.

Nice to see some new bikes being built  over the winter months, and finally getting a chance for a shakedown!

The Suzuki GSXR1000 prepared and stickered by RCM (Ray Clee Motorsports) looks to be in NZ superbike spec the rider John putting it through its paces, hope to see him racing full time this season, lets just say a dam quick combination!

Stretched the 7d’s legs and shot some photos, the sun was not friendly to photographer’s but they came out alright.

Still trying to make the best with the tools i have, looking forward to the start of the bike season, hopefully i can bring something new and fresh this year.

My aim is to produce a clean art style and designed photo, rather than just an action shot

Canon 7D

23 06 2011

Wow i have had such an amazing experience with my 40d over the past 3-4 years and i feel that it pushes you to try so hard and explore area’s of life that you never knew existed. you look at everything in ways people merely walk past in their busy day to day life.

i have had a couple of different len’s nothing overboard but have found a pretty reliable setup to cover most areas. i feel it comes down to your creativity somewhat and not always the gear you have.

i managed to push myself to splash out on a new 7d canon’s highest level consumer 1.6x crop body with the inspiration to take my work to the next level and to keep up with the ever advancing technology that is now on offer.

here are a couple of test shots with more to come as i find time to experience this amazing camera.

Yoshimura R55

17 04 2011

After weeks of deciding i finally picked a new exhaust for my brand new GSXR600.

With so many options i was spoilt for choice. I decided at this stage that i was very happy with the stock fueling and power of the bike, and decided to just go with a slip on Yoshimura R55 with carbon tip and keep the cat installed.

This also helps keep the noise down as its important to keeping the bike enjoyable to my ears on long trips. I have removed the baffle before i installed it and sounds exactly how i wanted it.

I’ve also removed the rear pillion pegs and really has cleaned up the tail and overall appearance of the bike.

Castrol Power 1 NZ Superbike 2011 Round 4

29 03 2011

Castrol Power 1 New Zealand Superbikes kicked off at Hampton Downs on 25th April 2011. Looking back on photos from last year it was a totally different climate getting very burnt.  This year was the total opposite with greasy, humid and wet conditions that would see some bikes come to grief and strategic plans come into play in the tire battle.

The rain created some confusion in the first race of the Superbikes on Sunday where the race was officially declared “WET” by officials. As the bikes left the pit and concluding 1 warm up lap the race was quickly pulled and rescheduled due to some rider/s going out on slicks and then saying its too dangerous? most riders were furious with the call..

Andrew Stroud was to battle hard with Aussie Robbie Bugden swapping positions every 2nd lap or so. Taking the win by 0.220!  Results: Superbike race 1: Andrew Stroud , Bugden , Frost , Stauffer ,Tony Rees , Hayden Fitzgerald

The Feature Race Tourist Trophy was won again by Andrew Stroud with a good ride by Sloan Frost to take 2nd and Kawasaki rider Nick Cole taking third.

Results: Superbike TT : Andrew Stroud , Sloan Frost , Nick Cole , Dan Stauffer , Ray Clee , Hayden Fitzgerald , James Smith , Tony Rees , Rob Bugden

Andrew was crowned Superbike Champion for 2011 and makes it 9 NZ championships.

In 600 Tourist Trophy super sport Midge Smart on a SuperStock R6 had an intense start running at the front of the pack battling with Scott Moir on his CBR600rr. Backing it in hard into turn 4 then running out wide not seeing Moir right next to him. Quickly ending in tears as they rubbed elbows sending Smart down hard for 50 meters along the tarmac.

The battle at the front was between the two Suzuki’s of Charlett and Skatchill, after Moir exited the race towards the half way point. Some good passing was made at turn 4 by Charlett to take the lead.

Results: ‎600SS Tourist Trophy (TT) Dennis Charlett Suzuki , Glen Skachill Suzuki Karl Morgan Suzuki. Superstock Sam Love , Jaden Hassan , Eric o-Max

All in all a great day, one round to go in Manfield for the season! hopefully the World Superbikes, Moto GP and AMA Superbikes will fill the drought untill racing gets underway here again.

Will leave you with some various favourites from the day.

Suzuki GSXR600 K9 2011

26 02 2011

WOW so after it feels like forever that i wanted to pick up a new bike… a lot of thinking went into about what 600 would fit me, i finally went with the gsxr 600. it offers more than the others for me.. next choice would have been the 675 or zx6r both are more hard core but i dont spend alot of time on the track and the gsxr just fits our type of road exceptionally well, so much torque to pull out of tight corners and the plush suspension just soaks up the bumps and lets you stay hard on the gas pulling hard. And wow does it go! so so smooth even with the stock exhaust it has plenty on tap! [yes its now run in :) ]

it took a bit but i finally found a sick deal on a left over k9 gsxr 600..in of course the timeless blue & white scheme. i really like the freshness of this scheme.. really makes it pop and has been getting some attention wherever it goes.

Shopping for an exhaust in the near future but not 100% sure on which one i will run with yet.. i like the look of the akrapovic shorty slip on from the 07 which i can fit but it may lose some torque lower down.. otherwise the new R77 from yoshimura is very nice but it looks a tad big. even the carbon TRC might be a good option. I want it to be moderate in noise but still have that decent pull from low revs.

on with the pics!!

up in its grill

a couple of cool photos of it in action i found on the net!!!
